Get your Garden On

Last year I really wanted to grow something and contemplated the Topsy Turvy things, but did not care for the reviews and decided that this year I was going to try square foot gardening.  Of course I have a garden board on Pinterest to get me started. I am awaiting this book at the library, this is when I wish I had a reader.

I also found this great blog that is a HUGE resource for SFG.

We are going to start out with one raised bed and see how it goes. Next year we will add on if we are successful.  I do not have a green thumb so this will be an adventure.

Hubby was able to score some of last years' soil for only .50 cents a bag. This is the time to check out your local stores as they are clearing out the old to make room for the new.

Right now what I should be doing is figuring out exactly what I want to plant and get the starters going. This website gives you a schedule depending on your zip code. How neat is that?!  Are you an avid gardener?  What tips can you share to a newbie?

Mirror, Mirror...

The mirror is causing problems or maybe it is the light fixture.  Regardless, one of them has to go.  I do not like how close the fixture is to the mirror.   The original plan was to frame the mirror so I decided to start shopping for lights, again, when my husband came home with this mirror that retails for $98, but was marked down to $10.  I was sold. Rather than dealing with the framing and my mirror clips we will just sand, prime, and paint this one to match the cabinet. Sunday we are going to pick out the cabinet color.  I can not wait to have cabinet doors!

Madeline and Addie Sew

Madeline and Addie both received a sewing machine for Christmas. I love the Our Generation accessories and this one has to be one of my favorite!  Look at all the cute stuff and it is only $17.39.  The needle really moves up and down and you can lift the presser foot.  Teeny bolts of fabric are also included.

Bathroom Update

We are slowly making progress in the bathroom. Matt will not let me paint walls and that is ok. Last week I finished up the staircase  (he lets me do the tedious stuff) so I am not itching to paint.  The hardware arrived and the light is installed.  That required wall repair. For the life of me I do not understand why the builders made larger than necessary holes for the light fixtures.  Tonight the walls should be finished. Matt is unsure of the color, but I love it and I think the dark cabinets will look nice against it.  Today I am dragging two kids to search for a soap pump and trash can that do not cost a fortune.

Bye Bye Purple

Remember the purple powder room?  Oh, you forgot?  Here is a reminder:

Oh, I know that there are no cabinet doors. It has been that way since August when hubby decided to prime the doors and leave it.  Luke has been potty trained for MONTHS that is how old this pictures is!   I posted my ideas for this room back in November, and we are really close to accomplishing it!

This is what the room looks like today:

I have to say that I like the primed walls a lot better than the purple.
We have already painted the trim and patched the walls for the new decorative hardware.

This is the hardware that I found at Lowes:

The cost of these at Lowes was going to be $59 after tax, but I found the exact ones on Amazon for $23.78 shipped!  It pays to research before buying!

The original light fixture that I picked out was a little more fussy than I wanted. I decided that I wanted a single sconce and this is what we went with.  The price is much better too at $17.98.

I have picked out a paint color.  Valspar's Glass Tile.

I still have not picked out the cabinet color... but I am getting there, eventually!

Napkins in Three Sizes

The sewing bug hit me last week when my friend LaNae dropped of some fabric.  I have been wanting new cloth napkins and this Ginger Blossom fabric fit the bill.  I have made napkins for the kids, but I had yet made any for the big people.  I saw this tutorial on Pinterest and made a set of twelve. We use cloth every day so that is why I needed so many.  I like using quilting cotton because it washes up nice and rarely wrinkles.

Full Size

The kids also got a new set of napkins. I just rolled hemmed these.

Kid Size

Oh, and we can not forget the dolls. A new table cloth and two sets of napkins were created using pinking shears for a fun look and small hair things as napkin rings.  Madeline made that centerpiece. She is a budding decorator.

Happy Valentine's Day

We always start our Valentine's day with pink heart shaped pancakes!

Here is Wyatt's Valentine Bento lunch.  Only took a few minutes using my heart sandwich cutter and Pampered Chef mini cutter.  I will recreate this for Madeline and Luke later for lunch.

Madeline and Addie in their matching Valentine outfits.

Have a happy Valentine's and share the LOVE!

Visual Project List #1 COMPLETED

I am happy to report that one of the three project lists are completed!!! I love scratching tasks off the list.  We ended up switching out or brass door levers for brushed nickel.  I found an online retailer that was much lower than my local big box store, but they were willing to price match with 10% off so we got a great deal! These match our front door hardware that we replaced in July.  It did not take long for Matt to replace the seventeen sets. Yes, seventeen.  The afters do not look too different in the pictures, but now the downstairs trim is all sporting the same color.
