Hoop Love

Back in 2010 I added fabric filled hoops to my "sewing room" and they remained there during the playroom revamp. We recently repainted the playroom and added functional storage in that space. I would love to reveal the new look, but that would require taking pictures!  It did not take me long to decide where the hoops new home would be when I browsed my pin boards and saw these:

Madeline had the perfect wall for the hoops!

I did not even swap out the fabric.  I love how all the red highlights the red in her bedding.  The picture below is a true representation of the paint color.

And another angle, because one is not enough.

Madeline's Room Reveal

Madeline's room is finished and we are two happy girls!  I had to wait three weeks to apply the vinyl headboard and that thing was a beast!  I mod-podged the prints onto wrapped canvases, made a coordinating pillow with her old sham,  and added a mirror to finish this room up. No more princesses or pink!  This room is light and airy and perfect for the six year old who thinks she is grown up! Sources are at the end of the post.

Here is the mood board in real life.

Here are some side by sides.  Oh, what a difference paint can make!

Madeline's Room

I have few regrets in life, but one is my choice in paint color for my daughter's room when we first moved in.  Pepto Pink!  When I saw it on the walls I thought I was going to die! It was too bright and dark, but I decided to roll with it.  Three years later I have decided to let go of the bad decision and make a change.

Madeline and I have been dreaming and scheming and this is what we came up with.  We are keeping the turquoise element of her old look, but incorporating it with yellow and teal and eliminating most of the pink.  My budget is $100 for the decor stuff minus the paint.

These are items that have been purchased for this mini makeover:

Duvet and sham set from Target $21
Digital Prints $10, Printing $14
Vinyl Headboard $18
Huge bucket for stuffed animals $6
Lamp and shade $25
Wall Color: Valspar Mystic Sea

Billy Pair and Felt Food

When we moved in I bought Madeline a fifteen dollar book shelf that I have absolutely hated and although the Billy is not expensive it is nicer than the standard pressed board shelf.  We purchased two small, narrow Billies in Atlanta with the option to add more when the need arises.   I also gave the little shelf above a coat of my favorite spray paint.

Madeline was given her Great Grandma Penney's tiered tray and I thought that it would look adorable with felt goodies.  Cookies, cupcakes, and rolls were added and are ready for impromptu tea parties!

I used this cookie and cupcake tutorial to create these felt yummies.

The jelly rolls and swiss cake rolls are simple rectangles rolled and sewn together.

Lego and AG Doll Storage

Two organizational projects that I completed before Christmas was Legos and 18" Doll Accessories.  We have both coming out our ears.  I really loved this Lego storage, but the $100 price tag was not in my budget. I wanted to utilize some book shelves that we already had and decided to use shoe storage boxes for only $16.  I had purchased over 1600 Legos bricks for Christmas and knew we needed a better storage system.

The last tote holds all instructions and our brick separator.
If you do not have that... run to the Lego Store and get one!

Current project boxes

I did not feel that labels were necessary as you can see the different colors and two out of my three kids do not read.

My next project was tackling all of Madeline's doll accessories. Her dolls have totally taken over half of her closet.  I purchased a hanging shoe bag for $8, cut to size and screwed it into the closet. I did hit one stud (on accident of course).  Everything is organized and she does a great job of cleaning up her doll stuff now that there is a place for everything.

The hanging clothes rack is a tension rod. Who says doll storage has to be expensive?!

Shh, Can you keep a secret?

I just can not wait to show you what Matt made for Madeline for Christmas. As you know Madeline LOVES her dolls and plays endless tea parties using her step stool as a table, but there is only enough room for two.  I saw this on Pinterest and knew that we could make our own.

Our table measures 19"x19". It is big, but we needed it to work for 3 dolls.  Here are some pictures that I snuck while the kids were asleep. I painted it lilac because Madeline loves any shade of purple.

Isn't that party ware so cute!!! We found them at Meijer in the American Girl craft section for $5. I know that Michael's also carries AG crafts. The spoons are the sample ones from Baskin Robbins.

If any one is interested in a table I believe that we are going to sell unfinished ones soon. Let me know if you are interested.

Doll Clothes Storage for under $5

I have talked before about Madeline's "friends",  Maisy and Stacy. Well, Maisy and Stacy have a little bit of a clothes problem! There are too many to fit into their wardrobe so I needed an inexpensive solution to corral all their stuff.

Here is what we had before.

I decided to try a spring tension curtain rod going the depth of the closet and it works great! Here is a great way to store your 18 inch doll clothes without using a lot of money or space! I used Command hooks for the accessories and the shoe racks came with doll shoes from Target that were purchased on clearance. I got the second shoe rack from a friend who did not need it.

I Spy Aqua

Last month I grabbed a can of Rust-oleum's Aqua for $3.47 and decided to "shop my house" for victims.

Madeline had a sweet little chair that was in need of a face lift.

I had a distressed cream bowl that just wasn't doing anything for me.
I love this pop of color in this neutral room

The green vases just blended in, but now they stand out!

I used a toothbrush with a Silver Leaf Rub N Buff to add a little oomph to these aqua beauties. I loved the idea of changing my decor with just one little can and an hour of my time. Instant gratification and easy on the budget.

What can you transform in your home?
