Laundry Room Reveal

It is about time!!! I have talked about laundry room plans here and here and I am so happy to be finished and I am going to guess that Matt is happier!  I went back and forth on color for awhile, but settled on the same color that we used in the powder room, Glass Tile.

Remember my curb side find?  This holds all the bulk cleaning supplies.

The plastic tubs are form Target and hold beach towels and swimsuits, library books, and one empty one for hauling stuff to and from the van.  These have come in handy and were only $5.99 a piece.

The letter bin came from TJ Maxx and the little chalkboards from Groopdealz.

All the doors got a fresh coat of trim paint with our new paint sprayer.  With school out and warm weather the hooks are bare, but will be nice and full in the fall.

I have had this rug since July and it gets the most wear and tear as this is our main entrance.  Matt recently added paint footprints, but with the a little scrubbing I was able to get it looking brand new.  I took the rug out to my driveway sprayed it down with the hose and a little diluted spray-n-wash.  I used my carpet cleaner to do all the scrubbing and suck up all the water.  I made sure the rug was completely dry before laying it back on the floor.

Working with What You Have

I love my laundry room. It is wide, functional, and if you saw my laundry room in my previous home you would understand why I love this one so much!  It is on the first floor, but really that works well because I can only fold clothes if I am watching TV.  A defect I know.  My laundry room is also the "mud room".  I always park in the garage (an agreement that hubby and I hashed out prior to moving in) and that is where we enter the house.  I do not think that I have used the front door. Ever. I do not even know which key it is. I usually get it by the third try. Getting to the point. I needed storage for book bags and coats as I described here.

I found these hooks at Lowes for $2.12 a piece.  This replaces the need of new dummy levers when we switch the brass out saving us twenty dollars.  The hooks hold up to 35 lbs when installed on wood. I installed these myself which involved a power drill and a drill bit.  I had to dig out the manual to figure out how to install the bit, but I did it and was drilling so well that I got little cocky on the last hole and broke the bit. Oops...

Here are the results:

I am so excited about the kids hanging up their own stuff!!! There is still a lot of work to do in here, but we are making progress.

Visual Project List {Part 3}

Adding to my visual project list.  We have a laundry room off the kitchen that leads to the garage. We always park in the garage so this is our "entry".  Next year I will have two kids in school and the following year three. My goal is to not only paint this drab room, but add functional storage for everyday outerwear, book bags, and school papers. I am not sure what color. I was originally thinking gray or yellow.  The gray may be too dark for this small space.  We will also paint all the doors and trim our brighter trim color. That will help lighten up the space too.  I purchased the rug a few months ago and I love it because it is easier to vacuum than to clean the vinyl floor underneath.
